My Year in Photos - 2023

A big change happened this year. I started a new job which has me travelling to Nelson, West Coast and Central Otago. Whilst I don’t have a huge amount of time on these work trips to dedicate to taking photos, and no chance of any decent hikes, it has got me amped to be shooting again.

My favourite photo of the year would have to be White Rock with a nice clean barrel of a wave peeling away in the foreground. More often than not the waves are really dumpy here so to see this offshore wind and a decent clean swell rolling through was a bit of a dream shot for me.

Rosie and I took a trip over Xmas to the Catlins. The Catlins region is right at the bottom of the South Island and is known for its deserted beaches and waterfalls. I’m not a huge fan of photographing waterfalls but I spent plenty of time at the beach. We were there for a week and barely saw anybody. It made a pretty good impression for what was our first trip down there.

These Top 16 photos of 2023 features Glenorchy and the Catlins of the South Island. From the North Island we have Kuku Beach, Waikawa Beach, White Rock, Mana Island, Hawke’s Bay, Wainuiomata and Castlepoint.
